Welcome to the home of the Family Gift Exchange application!

This app was originally written in 2005 for my own family's use. When we exchanged gifts in 2004 I had noticed that most gift purchases had been based on the recommendations of other family members. I decided to create a site where we could post our own wishlists and also make recommendations for each other. I also threw in "non-wishlists" so that people could mention items they had too many of or always got as gifts but didn't like.

Unfortunately, we only got to use the site for one Christmas before my grandmother passed away and we changed our gift-giving scheme. But the Gift Exchange rose again when my boyfriend told me of the complexities of gift buying in his large family. They successfully used the application in 2007 and were very eager to begin using it again as present season ramped up in 2008. That was when I decided to make the source available for anyone to use.

Application Features:

• Have your own individual login
• View and manage your:
  • Wishlist - The items you want
  • Non-wishlist - The items you don't want
  • Recommendation list - The items other people think you want
• Indicate relevent website or purchase location for gifts
• Make recommendations for other users
• Choose whether recommendations are visible to the person you are recommending a gift for
• Approve or unapprove the (visible) recommendations made for you
• Indicate to other users that you have purchased an item on someone's list (without the recipient being able to see that you have purchased it)
• Customize site colors, logo, and family name for your own family or group
